What is a student food co-op?

Ever wished you had easy access to affordable, quality and ethical food on your own campus?

There are close to thirty student food co-ops across the UK, allowing students to club together to collectively buy their food!

Most student food co-ops bulk buy food from co-operative wholesalers like Suma and Greencity alongside local suppliers of fresh produce, such as organic farms. Goods are then sold on to the co-operative’s members and fellow students at close to cost price.

Buying in bulk, running on a not-for-profit basis, and being operated by volunteer members allows everybody to save money.

Sourcing your own produce allows you to reduce emissions by cutting down on food miles and packaging, and to stock Fairtrade, organic and worker co-op produced food.
