How your donation will support our work

Students for Cooperation works to bring together the rapidly growing student co-operative movement to support one another’s ventures, to set up new co-operatives, to promote co-operative values and principles, to organise within the wider co-operative movement, and to support like minded social movements and campaigns. Students for Cooperation has also been actively developing ties with student and young co-operators internationally.

The work of Students for Cooperation and our member co-ops has succeeded in raising awareness of the co-operative model amongst many thousands of students and young people across Britain. Every year hundreds of new students are developing hands on experience of co-operative organising – experiences which will last a lifetime.* Our co-operators are keen to remain active in the co-op movement after they leave university or college, with a number actively working to set up new co-operative enterprises.

Going forwards we are also working to develop regional student co-operative networks, to produce further written guides and support materials, to organise more training events across Britain, to support recent alumni in getting support to establish new non-student co-ops, and to establish a national funding body for securing long term investment in new student housing co-operatives.

For the time being Students for Cooperation is run on a shoestring and primarily funded by one off grants, donations, some funding from member co-ops, and some speaker fees. Our main expenditures at current are:

  • Transport costs for running educational events, workshops, and conferences.
  • Promotional and educational materials.
  • Very basic admin costs (eg. web hosting).

We are no longer in a position to fund any wages for our organisers or for admin work, which has hampered our ability to organise effectively.

Donations via this form will go directly towards the work contained in the three bullet points above. We are also seeking separate funding for developing new educational materials and the start up costs for the new national body of student housing co-operatives.

*Figures based on membership of student co-operatives, attendance of student co-op events across Britain, customers of student co-ops, and online interactions.

Thank you for your ongoing support!
